ABS-CBN bans artists be interviewed by rival networks! Threatened much?

I thought it would only be GMA to be strict on its talents and disallow them to be interviewed and to guest on shows of rival TV5! But recently, ABS-CBN followed the route and banned Donita Rose in greeting friend Ruffa Gutierrez on her birthday celebration on TV5's Paparazzi.

Previously, ABS-CBN maintained friendly relationship with TV5. The network even allowed many of its young talents to guest and star on many shows of the third network. But the recent rift with Willie Revillame's supposed guesting on P.O.5 on which ABS-CBN threatened TV5 with a lawsuit if the said guesting be aired, might have triggered the Kapamilya network to tighten its belt among talents.

This is sad! Since it would be nicer for the industry to abolish the "exclusive" policy among stars and let Filipino artists to go rounds with different networks, guest on talk shows and be able to work with everyone. Other countries practice this culture, where actors of one network plugs his show in a talk show of another network. Friendly competition as we put it!

Ruffa Gutierrez even tweeted her disgruntle with ABS-CBN banning her friends to greet her on Paparazzi.

She tweeted, "My BFF DonitaRose wasn't allowed 2 wish me a simple happy bday. May side comments pa. Tsk Tsk. THE NETWORK WAR CANNOT RUIN REAL FRIENDSHIPS."

She even added, "A little birdy told me na hinarang ng isang TV Executive ang bday greeting ng best friend ko n may sinabi pang masakit after. Grabe naman!"

TMZ is reporting that Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green got married in a small ceremony on the island of Hawaii late last week.

They couple got engaged back in 2007, then Megan broke it off in 2009, then they got re-engaged this year at what sounds like the same resort where they just got married.

The couple met on the set of Hope & Faith back in 2004 and have been on and off ever since. This is the first marriage for both Megan and Brian, but Brian does have a son with actress Vanessa Marcil.

Megan was recently replaced in the third Transformers movie.

TV Review: Endless Love

Last night is the premiere of GMA's newest primetime teleserye, the remake of the Korean drama Endless Love.

Many might have already conveyed their opinions with this TV remake! But this is my take with the pilot episode.

The camera shots were great. It's like a made for TV movie in terms of cinematography. I was amazed with the aerial shots incorporated in the scene were the young Johnny and Jenny are riding their bikes in a dirt road with scenic view in the background.

There are minor changes in some scenes, but over-all, the series is righteous enough to follow the original. In comparison to rival ABS-CBN, GMA tends to make their primetime teleseryes glossy with unconventional angles and camera shots. ABS-CBN tends to be more soap operatic!

The young stars playing Jenny and Johnny are also good especialyl Kathryn Bernardo. The young Shirlye played by Joyce Ching is also pretty convincing. And basing from their performances last night, these three have bright future in the Kapuso network.

Many of us might have expected a lousy pilot episode since GMA is not really that good in terms of drama. But Endless Love proved me wrong.

The scenes weren't as complicated with Magkaribal, which also premiered last night. But the director was able to establish the plot well, and the actors were able to deliver the necessary emotions as called for in their respective scenes.

I'm also in praises with the remarkable execution. I hope that the teleserye could sustain this up to the end. The made Stairway to Heaven a good remake, so I'm with high hopes that GMA could be able to pull a decent Philippine version of Endless Love.

One thing that I'm disapointed with is the use of Rachel Ann Go's version as the teleserye's theme song. I don't like her rendition of the song Ikaw. I would love to hear Faith Cuneta's version, which is smooth, clear and soothing to the ears!

Kris Aquino to marriage with James Yap: It's over!

It's over! This is the brave confession of TV host Kris Aquino in her farewell episode on The Buzz last Sunday.

The 39 year-old popular TV host, actress and sister of President Noynoy Aquino broke her silence after weeks of speculations on the status of her marriage with cager James Yap.

Here's the transcript of Kris' statements on The Buzz

“First, I’m sorry about Tuesday [engagement in Cebu]. For so long, ilang buwan
It was a sign of weakness on my part not to show up, and I’m sorry about that.
I’m sorry that you [Boy] had to be the one to answer because you felt
uncomfortable making up an excuse.

“About what we’ve been through, I
napagdaanan namin in our married life. I think also the whole Philippines is
fully aware na when my mom was alive and ngayon, my siblings have tried to
bridge whatever gaps-and I mean gaps, marami na kasi. Tinry nila na tulungan
kaming ayusin yung mga problema namin.

“I have not sat down [with my
siblings]… lahat through text-kay Ate [Ballsy], kay Pinky. Through phone,
nakausap ko si Viel. Nag-text din kami ni Noy. Siyempre sila lahat, gusto nila
sana maayos pa.

“I just want to say na whatever decision I have come to,
it’s not a spur of the moment decision. Hindi ito nangyari na nagising lang ako
isang araw at sinabi kong ayoko na. Matagal naming sinubukan. James and I both
tried to really make this work.

“On my part, what I’m comfortable saying
is, with finality I can say, ako sumuko na.

“Ang dami kong pinag-isipan
kung paano ko maibabahagi sa lahat kung anong pinagdaanan namin without
revealing anything painful. But there’s no way of doing that.

“Last
night [June 26], mga 4 in the morning, hindi ako makatulog pa. Katabi ko si Baby
James, and I think he had a bad dream kasi he started to cry in his sleep. And
that’s when it came to me, and I’m sure lahat ng mga nanay maiintindihan ako.
Kung anuman ang dahilan why this marriage, on my part, I’m saying, is over, the
only person I will owe an explanation to, and the only person who can demand
from me na bakit kayo naghiwalay, is my son.

“And kagabi, Boy,
na-realize ko, the worst thing I can do for Baby James is, when he’s 7 or 8
years old, ang mahanap niya sa YouTube yung explanation kung bakit naghiwalay
ang nanay at tatay niya. He deserves much more than that. He deserves to hear it
only from me and only from James. Because in any separation, there are two sides
to the story. And we owe it to him, James will owe it to him, that I will owe it
to him to explain to him.

“But I’m sure you will all understand me. My
decision to keep quiet is not because on June 30 magiging presidente si Noy. My
decision to keep quiet is because I asked myself ‘Kapag in-explain ko kay Baby
James, number one, mauunawaan ba niya ako? Number 2, rerespetuhin pa ba niya
ako? At number 3, mamahalin pa ba niya ako?’ At nasagot ko naman kagabi na
‘yes.’ I know my son will understand me, will respect me and still love me. And
I feel that he will love me more, respect me more, and value me more if I keep
quiet today.

“I know that will leave so many unanswered questions, but
those questions, only Baby James deserves to hear the answers to. Siguro, Boy,
this is part of growing up. It’s part of realizing that yes, I am public and I
owe all of you an explanation, but apart from God, the only one I’m answerable
to is kung di man mga kapatid ko e ang anak ko.

“So sana po,
sa tahanan namin, let it stay there. Because I’m doing this for my son, because
he’s only 3 years old and he really doesn’t deserve na kung ano yung trials na

sasabihin, idya-judge ako, then let it be. I don’t mind. The world can judge me.
I just want my son to be able to respect me and respect his father. Because at
the end of the day, ang utang namin sa kanya. Kasi ang pinakamaaapektuhan ng
pangyayaring ito ang anak ko. To a certain extent, of course, it will affect
Josh but it’s really Baby James who will really be affected.

“And maybe,
yung sinasabi ng mom ko sa akin parati na, ‘Krissy, love is bringing out the
best in each other.’ Maybe Baby James is really bringing out the best in me. And
that’s it, Boy. I really hope they understand that this is for my son.”

James Reid: It's Ann Li!

PBB Teen Clash Big Winner James Reid graced The Buzz yesterday with the rest of the Big 6.

In an interview with the show's main hosts, James was asked who among the three female housemates linked to him he likes the most to be paired with.

Host Boy Abunda mentioned Ann Li, Tricia and Devon.

James cordially answered that it's Ann Li. He explained that among all the female housemates, he and Ann Li spent the longest time together and they're really close.

Oh well! We heard from James. He chose Ann Li!Haha!

But to pro-Tricia and pro-Devon out there, don't lose hope! James might like to be paired with Ann, but it would still be the network's decision. So keep that fan mails coming. We don't know...ABS-CBN executives might just choose your bet!!

'The Biggest Loser' coming soon on ABS-CBN

NBC's hit reality show The Biggest Loser is coming to the Philippines as broadcast network ABS-CBN announced its upcoming version during the Big Night of its latest Big Brother edition.

The Biggest Loser has been a constant top rater for NBC, performing impressively on the 18-49 demographic. Several countries had already aired its respective versions.

The reality show has inspired so many to go for healthy living in the US, whose population generally suffers obesity.

But the goal is universally the same, the contestant who had the biggest weight lost is the winner.

POLL: Who should be paired with James?

I'm quite stunned by the all the hot discussions on the recent Big Winner James Reid and his future loveteam. I mean, having a loveteam is the best way to penetrate Philippine showbiz, especially if your still young!

This season didn't rate as high as compared to other editions. But netizens are raving for many housemates, with heated online discussions on several forums.

To join the bandwagon, let's have this Fun Poll and get the pulse of the people.

Who should be paired with James Reid? Three names came out! Is it the nice girl Ann Li? Or the damsel from Cebu Devon? Or the girl who made all the fury...Tricia?

Is Jacia the next Kimerald?

Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson are today's hottest young stars and the two formed this generation's number one loveteam, the Kimerald.

But both Kim and Gerald are getting matured already. The two, as a loveteam, are taking the route to more serious roles, from Tayong Dalawa to Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo.

I believe that ABS-CBN is searching for their next teen sensation, young stars with active and huge fanbase. And this season of PBB Teen Edition proved that Tricia Santos got the biggest fanbase, not counting the haters of course.

James Reid, this season's Big Winner also got a lot of fans. In fact, he is being paired to many females housemates --- there's Tricia, Ann Li and Devon, each with devoted following.

But chemistry-wise, Tricia and James should be paired and be launched as a loveteam. The two look good together! Ann Li is a nice girl, but she's not really appealing and charismatic. And it's definitely not Devon.

What do you think?

James Reid is PBB Teen Clash 2010 Big Winner

In a not so big finale, PBB Teen Clash 2010 named teenternational housemate James Reid as Big Winner with Korean Ryan Bang as 2nd Big Placer.

The Big Night was held at the Ynares Sports Center in Rizal and was attended by fans bringing banners of their favorite housemates.

Many viewers might have expected Ivan to win since he got the loudest yell and scream from the audience. But the ravishing only male Pinoy housemate only ended as the 5th Big Placer.

The 6th Big Placer is Brett Jackson, Devon Seron of Cebu landed as 4th Big Placer while another Cebuana Fretzie Bercede settled as the 3rd Big Placer.

I was relieved and jubilant that James is the Big Winner, at least its not Devon!

Devon kept on laughing when nothing is even funny at all. I find her OA and kinda annoying. I already disliked her during the start of the season, when she joined Shey's club of backstabbers.

Since this season has finally wrapped up, let's start the petition to ABS-CBN for a Saturday youth-oriented show for Tricia and James, Brett and Fretzie, Ryan and Jenny and Devon and Joe (gosh...can't hide my disgust with the two).

GMA cooks new shows, Eugene Domingo stars in 'Jejemon'

GMA Network is really bent on implementing changes in the company to keep it in the right track. For months now, the network suffered setbacks from ABS-CBN which now regained the lead in the important Mega Manila area.

Failure of its newly launched shows are truly imminent and the network has no choice but to conceptualize and create new shows, in hopes of getting back its audience. Diz is it is saying goodbye, definitely!

From the success of its sitcom Pepito Manaloto, GMA is cooking up a new comedy which will replace the low-rated Pinoy Records.

According to PEP Scoopbox, Joey Marquez and Ruffa Mae Quinto will star in the still untitled sitcom. Meanwhile, comediene Eugene Domingo will have another show in the Kapuso network titled Jejemon. Gelli de Belen, Wendell Ramos and Jennica Garcia are also part of the cast.

Innovative and fresh ideas. These should GMA has to offer in order to the plum spot in the ratings game. For long now, GMA has lost its creative reach, the same characteristic that catapulted the network to the top.

More shows please! Survivor Philippines on Saturdays and Sundays perhaps?

Kris Aquino remains 'quiet' on marital problems

The Queen of All Media is again hounded with another issue revolving her marital problems with husband James Yap, Sr.!

It has been announced by Boy Abunda during his trip to Cebu that the two weren't OK!

The popular TV host has issued a statement about her marital problem. This was shown on ABS-CBN’s nightly entertainment talk show SNN last Tuesday, June 22.

It read:

“There have been series of life-altering events in my life this past year—from
our mother’s death to my brother’s election, and now my moving in a different
direction as far as my career is concerned. Lastly, there is this state of my
marriage.

“I would like to say that where I am now is a result of many
months fortitude and in the last couple of months, careful thought. My sole
priority is the well being of my sons, Josh and Bimby. We are together, they are
in my care and it’s my intention and prayer to make this period of our lives to
be as free from trauma as possible.

“I chose to keep my silence
primarily because my current state is not one for celebration or lengthy
discussion but rather prayer, private reflection, and quiet. It is in the best
interest of my two sons that I remain quiet most especially because I shouldn’t
make what’s already difficult becomes more painful.”

So if she really want to keep mum about this issue, why let BFF Boy Abunda scream it to public like selling hot cakes? In the first place, she shouldn't have given any statement since a rumor will always remain a rumor unless verified by either an admittance or denial.

Others also speculated that this will be the replacement of Showtime, since there are reports that the top rating show will be seasonal, so as now to let the hype and popularity die down easily.

TOP 5: Most Anticipated Upcoming Shows of the season!

I know. Many of us TV fans are now very excited with the shows TV networks are cooking up for us Pinoy viewers.

The competition is gearing up. And networks here in the Philippines are pulling out all their strings to come up new shows which will attract the biggest share in the ratings pie.

So in our first entry in this series I aptly called "TOP 5", the countdown of the most anticipated new shows on TV for this season

5. NOAH

This is ABS-CBN's biggest TV production to date, that according to press releases by the network. Starring top actor Piolo Pascual and child wonder Zaijan Jaranillo, this is a show screaming with so much star power. Reports that Kristine Hermosa is also part of this primetime fantaserye.

Why: It's big. I am anxious how the quality will prevail and how the network pull up this kind of project. I may get disapointed but hey, optimism people! ABS-CBN isn't really very successful with fantaseryes after Marina but the network was able to put up Rounin's decent special effects (save from its boring plot), with this my hope for Noah anchors.

4. SURVIVOR PHILIPPINES: CELEBRITY EDITION

GMA truly made a decent version of Survivor. The camera shots and the flow of the show is basically the same with its US counterpart. Surprisingly, the show wasn't dragging even if the network decided to stretch it 5 days a week basing from its two previous editions. This 3rd season, celebrities will be the castaways, to outwit, outplay and outsmart each other.

Why: The quality is great people! GMA made Survivor its flagship primetime reality show, just what ABS-CBN made out of PBB franchise. Celebrities IMO are exciting castaways. I'm looking forward with more bitchiness, backstabbing and deceitful alliances this season. I'm just on the second thought on Richard Gutierrez as host.

3. ENDLESS LOVE

The original Korean drama is great. The acting is great and the story is superb. I am again anxious with the GMA remake. Philippine networks, especially GMA, have this track record of ruining in most ways an original material when remade. I just hope this one will be good to preserve the "sanctity" of this romantic drama, just for the sake of the hardcore 'Endless Love' fans.

Why: It's Marian Rivera's return to primetime. She had all these negative issues on her, but hey people, the woman is talented. Let's admit it! She got the crack with romantic comedies but she hasn't proved herself yet in drama. Her last pure drama series on primetime bombed. I'm anticipating a superb performance to vindicate Marian from all critics. Asking about Dingdong? Had he proved anything worthy aside from having a very popular girlfriend in reel and real life? Let me think...

2. MAGKARIBAL

This is Philippine soap opera at its best! That is my impression from the trailer and teasers. It has all the elements of a Philippine telenovela (teleserye in Filipino). Glamorous and fab, Gretchen's TV comeback has really made so much noise. If it didn't made noise then she's not La Greta anymore. Bea Alonzo, the replacement of Claudine Baretto is really beautiful here, haven't seen her that beautiful since she started showbiz. The plot is also quite complicated.

Why: For the love of fashion, what else! Based on the trailers, Bea and Gretchen have worn gorgeous dresses and gowns especially that pink Michael Cinco's beaded gown worn by Bea. I am also looking forward to La Greta's gowns and the showcase of Pinoy fashion. I just wish this teleserye wil be imported to other countries especially in Korea. Koreans should learn how more glamorous and fabulous Filipino celebrities are in comparison to their's.

1. IMORTAL

It's our top choice. Vampires and werewolves on Philippine TV is really something. The thing might not be the most original but it's being poised as the next Lobo. Angel's Lobo is really good, story and production wise. And if they keep the type of quality for Imortal, then that would be another great show for international award giving bodies. Banff? Emmy's? Anyone? Let the clash begin.

Why: Angel Locsin is returning to primetime, this time with the country's most bankable star John Lloyd Cruz. They're both popular and critically acclaimed dramatic actors. The two weren't dependent on loveteams for success and that is great. It just shows how mature their careers are, being big stars on their own right.

ABS-CBN leads in Metro Manila, Mega Manila, Nationwide Ratings

ABS-CBN Corporation is indeed jubilant this year. The network claims leadership for the period covering June 1-14, 2010 from the ratings provided by the Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) Media Intelligence, now known as Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN garnered 44% audience share versus GMA's 30% in the national survey.

The so-called Kapuso bailiwick is now ABS-CBN's turf as the Kapamilya network got 36% audience share in the Mega Manila area. This is higher than last year's 35.2%. GMA, on the other hand, lost 7 points from the 40% it posted last year.

ABS-CBN also got a wide lead in Metro Manila by vitue of its 38% audience share versus GMA's 30%. Meanwhile, 14 out of the Top 20 shows nationwide are from ABS-CBN. In fact, ABS-CBN shows occupy from 1 to 14.

Agua Bendita remains the undisputed no. 1 program nationwide. The primetime drama is averaging 39.5%.

The finale of the network's talent reality show Pilipinas Got Talent garnered 43.8%, the second highest weekend rating ever recorded by the Kantar Media. PBB Double Up got the highest rating of 44.6% in the weekend survey.

Other programs in the overall weekday and weekend Top 20 include “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (34.9%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (34.2%), “Rated K” (29.2%), “Agimat presents Elias Paniki” (27.5%), “Rubi” (27.2%), "Momay" (25.6%), “Sharon” (23.7%), “Goin Bulilit” (23%), “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash 2010 (Weekday)” (19.1%), “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash 2010 (Saturday)” (18.5%), and “Kapamilya Sunday Blockbuster” (18.3%).

Kantar Media/TNS is a leading market research group in the world with a proven track record in audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its national television audience measurement (NUTAM) data on February 2009 with panels, composed of 1,370 representative households, covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely NCR, Suburbs, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Will Sarah Geronimo turn into a Kapuso?

Many have observed Sarah Geronimo's absence on ASAP XV since she kicked off her world tour concert. The Pop Princess is yet to return to ABS-CBN's Sunday musical variety show.

Rumors are circulating that VIVA, the company managing Sarah is not renewing the singer/actress contract with the Kapamilya network. According to reports, GMA Network is offering Sarah five times of what she's earning on ABS-CBN.

But ABS-CBN could well match this offer. After all, the network is earning more now than its rival, with commercial load filled in all timeslots.

Sarah Geronimo is a highly valued talent by virtue of her successful teleseryes, multi-platinum albums and sold out concerts in and out of the country. Undeniably, she owes her career to ABS-CBN's wide reach nationwide and worldwide.

I hope Sarah to remain on ABS-CBN. She's a queen on her own right in the Kapamilya network. GMA is also a good network. She can be the Kapuso network's new primetime queen --- or the presumptive network queen. But it would be uncertain if she'll be able to retain her success with what ABS-CBN's TFC can give especially on her world concert tours.

GMA shoots national anthem video

GMA Network will have its very own national anthem plug like rival ABS-CBN had years ago.

The Kapuso network announced that select artists from its stable of stars will be included in the video. Richard Gutierrez already shot his part.

The music video will be star-studded and the network allegedly spent millions for this --- on location shoots, costumes and props to make its really good. Hope this would really be good! We all know music videos and station IDs aren't really their forte.

Watch out for the network's announcement as to when this video be played on the air.

GMA Network bosses admit losses in the ratings game

In a rare moment, humarap sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at iba pang piling entertainment editors ang “dynamic duo” ng GMA-7 na sina Atty. Felipe Gozon (Chairman, President, and CEO) at Mr. Gilberto “Jimmy” Duavit (Executive Vice President, COO) sa 16th floor ng GMA Network Center kahapon ng tanghali, June 21.

Sina Atty.

Aniya, “We have a long history of trying to build our station and capability without having to pirate talents from ABS-CBN… Up to now, that has been our policy. So that if there are talents from ABS that are transferring to us, that means that their contracts have already expired. And they are the ones voluntarily asking us if they have a place here, etc.

“Hindi pa namin ginagawa yung may live contract and pupuntahan namin and then we will convince by offering twice or three times the talent fee. We have never done that…yet! Sabi nga sa showbiz, ‘Mahirap magsalita ng tapos,’” sabay tawa nito.

Ipinaliwanag din ng dalawang TV executives ang mga ginagawa nilang hakbang upang mapaganda ang bawat programa nila.

“Every Wednesday, in this room, we hold a program committee meeting and that is where everything is decided,” banggit ni Atty. Gozon.

Gozon. “But to the extent possible,” dagdag ni Mr. Duavit, “ito ay tinatawag nating collegial. Ibig sabihin, hindi naman pormal na botohan, pero sinasang-ayunan ng grupo o mas nakakarami sa grupo. Sa ganung sitwasyon, si Atty. Gozon, e, tiebreaker. Ako, tiga-intriga. Ibig sabihin, hindi naiiwasan na may pagkakataon na nahihiya magsalita, magbigay ng punto de vista yung ilan. So in such situations, I play the role of an encourager-instigator.”

LACKLUSTER PROGRAMS.

It’s something that has a very loyal following both in the trade and sa viewership niya. And again to a large extent, we acknowledge that particularly sa timeslot niya, napaka-late na… Bubble Gang will outlive me, so will Bitoy [Michael V] and Ogie [Alcasid].”

Gozon, “In other areas, as Jimmy had explained, in our prog-com meeting, we are also analyzing the landscape, the trend, bakit ba nagre-rating ngayon ‘yan, bakit bumabagsak itong rating ng mga programs namin na dati, e, ang tataas. In fact, we have a department in our company who does nothing but that—monitor and analyze. At inire-report ‘yan, in writing. Kung minsan nga, siyempre nasasaktan yung mga producer when their programs are being criticized for lacking this, lacking that, they should have done this, ganito… Kung minsan kami ni Jimmy nagre-referee dito. That’s part of our job here. That’s how we monitor the competition.”

“For so long, itong SOP, had been lording it in that Sunday noontime slot until they [ABS-CBN] hit something na tinalo yung SOP. As has been our practice, we discussed it, pinag-aralan, lahat, and then we gave the producers a chance. Mahirap naman yung bigla mong papatayin. At least due process, e, parang abogado, e, he has to give everybody a day in court. So, tanong natin diyan, ‘O, may magagawa pa ba tayo diyan? How long do you need?’ Nung sumuko na, pinalitan na.”

Ang pumalit na show rito ay ang Party Pilipinas, kung saan karamihan ng mga nasa SOP ay kasali pa rin dito.

Dagdag ni Atty. Gozon, “And from that time, papalit-palit because sometimes you don’t hit the hole that brings up the oil right away. In fact, siguro nabalitaan n’yo, nag-resign pa yung director diyan, si Louie [Ignacio]. Dahil napuna nga doon na parang yung mga nagpe-perform, e, lack rehearsals, parang hindi sila synchronized… But I’m glad to say that the other Sunday [June 13], medyo magaganda na yung feedback na nare-receive namin at lumamang na sa rating yung Party Pilipinas.

“So that’s the clearest example I can give on how we do things here. That goes even to the primetime telebabad. We are reviewing that dahil may lumalabas na may sawa factor diyan, masyadong frequent naming kina-cast yung mga artista kaya ang impression, e, wala kami masyadong mga talent. All of these things are being considered. As you will see, maraming new programs ngayon na papalitan yung mga old programs.”

LOSING THE MOMENTUM.

Gozon.

“I hate to admit it, but you are correct,” pag-amin niya. “And the thing is we’re trying to do something about that.

Gozon. “I have been worrying about that, you know. Maybe that’s why people say it’s easier when you’re running after somebody than you’re ahead. The tendency is to take it easy, just do the same things you have been doing before. But that is wrong.

“In this very dynamic industry, you have to be ahead of everybody, even the viewers. You have to get what they want to watch next week. Ang hirap nun, e. That’s why I enjoy this job more than my law practice, honestly! Sa law practice kasi, sa tanda kong ito, wala nang bago, e. All you have to do is you research the jurisprudence, e, di alam mo kung anong law ang ina-apply ng court. E, dito, lahat bago dahil nagpapalit. Talagang ang bilis!”

Aminado rin si Atty. Gozon, na partner sa Belo Gozon Elma Parel Asuncion & Lucila Law Offices, na hindi naging maganda ang resulta ng telefantsya nilang Panday Kids.

“Panday Kids was bad… It was not like the Panday [the movie],” sabi niya. “Siguro may mga sawa na rin at saka parang more of the same. They want something different. I think that’s what is happening in the… Kaya tingnan mo, for example, ang tagal-tagal niyang SiS.

It’s not easy to conceptualize and prepare a program in TV. Hindi easy.”

Pero aniya, “Kaya ngayon, we are in a better position than before, let me emphasize that. Before Mulawin, mas kokonti ang resources namin noon. Kokonti ang artista namin noon. Lahat konti. Maski yung pera namin no’n, mas konti. Although, may pera na kami no’n. E, ngayon, we have. Kailangan lang malaman namin kung ano ang dapat naming gawin.

“To me, that is a much easier problem to solve than you have to solve so many collaterals there. Kaya I remain to be very confident that we will surmount this problem. In fact, we just consider this as a wake-up call and I’m glad that it happened na ngayon, hindi yung talagang talo ka. Because we are not yet beaten in Mega Manila, e.”

PEOPLE RATINGS VS. HOUSEHOLD RATINGS. Mismong si Atty. Gozon na rin ang nagbanggit na ang basehan nila ng popularity ng isang show ay ang rating nito more than its commercial load.

“It’s always the ratings,” sabi niya. “Meron tayong mga program na natatalo ng programs ng ABS, pero naglu-load better than the load of the counterpart programs. Ganun din naman sila. Meron silang programs na talo natin, pero mas naglu-load kesa sa atin. May ganun, e. But the general rule is pag mataas ang ratings, mataas ang load.”

Pag sinabi nating People Ratings, it is the percentage of total people within the survey area that are watching. Kaya ho naging mas mahalaga ang People Ratings ang maging basehan o pagbabasehan, it’s simply because this is what the trade prefers when it makes advertising or buying decisions,” aniya.

Ayon kay Mr. Duavit, “To our knowledge, ibang households ang napaglalagyan ng kanilang mga People Meters [gadgets] within the survey area. As to which one is more reliable, well, I will let the subscriber listing speak for itself. Ibig sabihin, kung titingnan natin ang mga korporasyon or related entities that subscribe to AGB, mas malaki ito kung ihahambing sa nagsu-subscribe sa TNS. But it’s not for us to say.”

Dagdag naman ni Atty. Gozon, “In practical term, e, mas maraming People Meter na naka-deploy ang AGB kesa dito sa TNS. In fact, they have recently increased the deployment of meters. Kaya ngayon sa Mega Manila, ang weight that was given to Mega Manila is already 55 percent. It used to be 49-point something percent. And dinagdagan nila ng so many meters…”

LEGAL BATTLE.

“That’s the favorite subject of mine!” natatawang sabi ni Atty. Gozon.

Paalala niya, “Hindi sa Mega Manila ‘yan by the way, ha, that is in Bacolod. Fortunately, it is in Bacolod where we are beaten to a pulp up to now. Ang laki-laki ng kanilang [ABS-CBN] agwat dun, e. And the complaint was, itong mga galing sa radio by the way—hindi sa TV—na tinanggal namin, nag-report sa Channel 2, na nabibili yung may people meter for 500 pesos. May halaga pa, e.

“Look at the logic of this whole thing. Ang Bacolod is a small part of the Visayas region. Ang pinakamalaki diyan, Cebu. Now, if you look at the number of people meters deployed in the whole of Visayas, it’s probably less than 200 [people] meters. So, ilan lang yung nandiyan sa Bacolod? Palagay na nating dalawampu or thirty… Five hundred [pesos]. O, magkano ‘yon? P15,000 a month. O, ilang yung months a year, times 12, wala pang P200,000. Magkano yung transmitter at saka kuwan na nilagay namin doon to improve our signals? Milyon! E, kung ganun kadali to get the rating, sira ba ulo namin mag-i-invest ng ganun? At saka dito ko na gagawin ‘yon sa Mega Manila, sa Davao, sa Cebu; hindi sa Bacolod. Dahil nandun ang labanan talaga, e.

“Saka hindi kami ang hinabla, ha. Ang hinabla nila [ABS-CBN], AGB,” diin ni Atty. Gozon. “E, kami ang ina-accuse na nagtsi-cheat. Now, to turn the tables, kami ang naghabla sa kanila. And that case is still pending now. Kaya hindi ko iwi-withdraw ‘yan because I want the truth to come out, e. Kung talagang sinabi ng mga taong ‘yon [witnesses], I want them to say na niloko lang nila ang Channel 2. E, kayo, i-accuse kayo ng dishonesty na hindi n’yo naman talaga ginagawa, you want to clear your name. Ganun lang ‘yon.”

Who's your PBB Teen Clash 2010 Big Winner?

ABS-CBN's reality franchise's latest edition is nearing its finale. The Big Night will be on Saturday. Tomorrow is the announcement of the Teen Big 6.

I must say that this is a lackluster edition of PBB --- the worst among all seasons and editions. In fact, I had this belief that this teen edition was hastily broadcasted by ABS-CBN to at least bank on the popularity of the prior season (Double Up being Mega Manila's number one in primetime on several instances).

The only reason I watched this edition was because of the controversial housemate Tricia Santos of Davao. This is not because we share a common denominator --- our hometown. I watched because I can relate with Tricia. Being misunderstood and bullied by others. Our only difference is that I fight back --- she, on the other hand, cry and keep it to herself.

It's amusing to see a Tricia who doesn't fight back, since meeting her before her PBB stint gave me an impression of an invulnerable girl, a fighter and who could engage in a trash-talk catfight.

To make it simple, Tricia is the spice of this season. The one who made the house exciting. And when she was evicted --- the house get soOOooo boring that even Ryan's antics got spoiled and annoying.

I'm not a fan of Tricia, though. And I don't defend her either. It's just that in my point of view, she made this annoying batch of housemates in a way --- watchable!

Returning to our topic, among the remaining housemates who do you think is a Big Winner material?

Fretzie? The girl with the awkward accent and who answers Kuya's queries with senseless stuffs. Or Devon? Who the heck is this girl? Can't remember her doing anything remarkable.

Ivan? The cutie foreigner-looking Pinoy housemate. Half of the foreign teen housemates look more Filipino than this pretty-faced guy.

Ryan? For being funny and his struggles with the English language. Oftentimes, he's funny. But there are really times, he's getting annoying. Or Ann-li? She' pretty! But again, she's a wallflower. A "Yamato Nadeshiko" (in my groupies' language).

Do you think Brett? He's a leader. He got iniative. The guy who always cling with Fretzie, and sings like a whinning baby. Or James? The sickly cutie with a very cute Aussie accent!

Who do you think deserves to be the Big Winner?

IMO, the Big Winner should come from the teenternational housemates! The foreign housemates immensely outshadowed the Pinoys in attitude, values, personality and desirable traits. Many teenternational housemates are standouts, characters who made tremendous mark with this season (except of course with the infamous Tricia, Shey and Joe).

My fearless forecast, Ryan will be the Big Winner! He's charming and funny so my bet is on him.

Expert slams 'Party Pilipinas' 3D broadcast

GMA Network made history, at least this is what they are claiming, with the 3D broadcast of its Sunday noontime musical Party Pilipinas.

This is obviously an attempt to generate stir and atrract viewers for the fledgling musical variety show which has been struggling for ratings against rival ASAP XV of ABS-CBN.

But a techno website, recently, expressed disappointment with the 3D technology employed by the network for its broadcast.

To quote:

Um, did anyone see this? Apparently, GMA-7's weekend par-tey show Party Pilipinas was aired in 3D yesterday. Sounds surprising, right? Except that it's not.

As cutting-edge as the word "3D" may sound, what GMA used to pull this stunt off was an older version of the technology. According to the instructional video, you'll need to create your own pair of anachrome/anaglyph (red and blue) glasses to see the 3D effect. Anachrome glasses filter the image to create a primitive 3D illusion.

While we have nothing against anachrome 3D, the way the show was promoted as a first in Philippine TV was clearly intended to one-up the competition [ABS-CBN] without actually one-upping them.

To create real 3D material, you'll need huge-ass multimillion-dollar equipment and a means to broadcast the feed/data. What GMA did was to create sets of images, 1 red and 1 blue, and smash them together into a single analog feed. TV stations in the US have been doing this since the early '90s, and today, they're only beginning to experiment with real 3D broadcast.

3D has come a long way, especially with IMAX/3D theaters and modern 3D TVs proliferating. And more importantly, the 3D glasses they require cannot be made out of folders and cellophane alone.

Theaters use polarized glasses that separate stereoscopic (or images caught with 2 lenses that mimic the eye) frames while 3D TVs use battery-powered active shutter glasses to achieve the same effect. What's more, the colors are much more vivid and the depth of the images are much more realistic than what anachrome 3D could ever achieve.

Misleading as it may be, we have to give credit to Party Pilipinas for trying to jump in on the 3D bandwagon. As far as the program making it to the record books, however, well, we'll have to disagree. Hard.

Party Pilipinas' 3D may be a first in the country, but it's not the kind of first that we've been waiting for.

'Claudine' will be canceled

GMA's weekly drama anthology Claudine will be bidding its goodbye soon. This was confirmed by the network's Executive Vice President and COO Gilberto Duavit Jr. in a press briefing.

However, the Kapuso network executive denied that the show's poor ratings is the reason of the weekly drama's early cancelation. He said that Claudine Baretto's hectic schedule is the problem, since the actress is currently busy taping for her upcoming movie In You Eyes, a joint production of GMA Films and VIVA Films. The movie also stars Richard Gutierrez and Anne Curtis.

But according to the executive, Baretto will be given a new soap opera after filming In Your Eyes. He even assured that this new show will be composed of a stellar cast.

Duavit, however, did not disclose any further details.

Many hate her overly sunshine personality. Others find her very nice for a celebrity.

Internet people hated Kristen Stewart for being shy and aloof on press. Yet still many hated Lea for too much smilling and being ultra-nice to paparazzis. So how really a celebrity should act, there will always be haters to compenate with the numerous fans and supporters.

Amanda Bynes retires at 24

Publicity gimmick or just a period of identity crisis?

This is the dilemma that young actress Amanda Bynes is currently facing after she tweeted to the whole world that he's quitting acting.

"I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first," she wrote yesterday afternoon.

She seems to think that a handful of movies and a long television career via Nickelodeon justifies a retirement from her career.

She added on Twitter...

"I don't love acting anymore so I've stopped doing it," she wrote. "Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem."

She continued: "I've never written the movies & tv shows I've been apart of I've only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play."

It's pretty funny since most actors don't write the material their acting.

But hey, this must be some kind of a publicity gimmick. After all, she has a movie coming up this summer with current IT girl Emma Stone entitled Easy A.
