Korina Sanchez-Mar Roxas nuptials is today

Esteemed broadcaster Korina Sanchez and popular senator Mar Roxas will tie the knot today on Sto. Domingo Church which is touted as the Wedding of the Year.

After Mar Roxas bowed out in the 2010 presidential race and decided to run as vice president instead and the disastrous rampage of Typhoon Ondoy, the grand fairytale wedding will finally be a reality.

Korina Sanchez will wear a Pepito Albert wedding gown of embroidered piƱa that she will accent with antique tambourine brooches belonging to her late mother Celia. Aside from her mother’s brooches, Sanchez will wear one of her late father Ramon’s cufflinks somewhere on her body.

Mar's son, 15 year old Paolo Gerardo will be the best man.

The ring bearer will be actress Kris Aquino’s son, James Yap Jr., while Miguel Sanchez and Matthew Garcia will be the coin and Bible bearers, respectively.

The wedding reception was cancelled due to the devastation of typhoons in the country since the couple decided to donate the money for the reception to the victims instead.

The primary sponsors are Noynoy Aquino (Korina's ex-boyfriend), Chief Justice Reynato Puno, former Senate president Jovito Salonga, ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio Lopez III, Jorge Araneta, Red Cross governor Rosa Rosal, broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro, Ruby Roxas, Baby Fores and Helen Costales.

MTRCB warns ABS-CBN for PBB nudity

As reported in some websites and blogs, MTRCB recently warned ABS-CBN, the producer of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother about several complaints of some sectors about the so-called nudity in the show.

The nudity issue pertains to the Fan Dance challenge by Big Brother, of which was slammed by MTRCB chairperson Marissa P. Laguardia as it supposedly encourages nakedness and nudity.

“I already advised and warned PBB verbally yesterday. Per visuals and language, the fan dance did not show anything objectionable. I advised director Laurenti Dyogi to assign more wholesome tasks. The plugs on the dance were pulled out. The plugs did not create quite a stir as it teased the audience to be glued on the fan dance to wait whether more skin will be shown or not. But in the episode, skin tone outfit was used. In other words, it’s a come on for the viewers. However, nothing was really shown,” Laguardia said in her text message to media outlets." explained by Chairman Laguardia.

Though no private parts were seen on the show telecast, MTRCB cited that “it is the concept of the task that is too daring and offensive.”

GMA reformats shows

GMA Network recently upgraded its long-running weekend programs to keep pace with the tightening competition.

Bitoy's Funniest Videos was relaunched into a talent search program with emphasis on videos uploaded via Youtube. The show aims to search for the latest internetional Filipino talents, is now titled Bitoy's ShoWWWtime. The title is quite similar to another ABS-CBN talent show Showtime.

Bitoy's ShoWWWtime airs on the same timeslot with Bitoy's Funniest Videos, Saturdays 8pm. It is still hosted by Master Comedian Michael V.

On the other hand, Sunday's karaoke staple K! The 1 Million Videoke Challenge was also reformatted and had incorporated a live band on its karaoke themed game format. Hence, it's title is Bandaoke! Rock n’ Roll to Millions.

Still hosted by Allan K. and Jaya, the show went into a bold transformation to make Sunday evening more exciting.

K! The 1 Million Videoke Challenge ran for eight years, and now the network felt that this is the right time to reformat the show. Bandaoke! Rock n’ Roll to Millions is a progressive and contemporary spin-off of the long-running karaoke game show which was launched long before karaoke game shows were launched on American primetime programming.

Is JC de Vera leaving GMA?

The rising Kapuso actor is again rumored to be shifting networks after his afternoon soap opera with Heart Evangelisa ended.

JC de Vera, the leading man behind successful drama series on GMA Network i.e. Pati Ba Pintig ng Puso, Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig and Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita, wherein he was paired with young actress Yasmien Kurdi.

But the actor is already missing on GMA's programming, except for his stint on Dear Friend, where he is currently seen with Jewel Mische and Ynna Asistio.

JC was last seen on primetime with the comedy drama Lalola with Rhian Ramos.

“Meron naman[g issue] palagi eh,” JC said.

“As far as I know, okey pa ako rito sa network, okey pa ako sa GMA, walang isyung ganun. Kasi may gagawin pa akong [project sa] December eh. So ‘pag December siya nag-start, malamang January siguro mag-start ‘yung taping, so malamang ‘yung ere nun lalagpas sa kontrata ko. Madami ‘yun, lalagpas ako, for sure.”

According to reports, JC will be paired with the comebacking actress Camille Prats on Kahit Minsan Lang.

But his manager Annabele Rama might pull him out from the network after his contract ends when she will find the new projects unsatisfying.

GMA to reboot Encantadia?

In order to keep its lead on Mega Manila, GMA Network is said to be on plans of rebooting its critically acclaimed and highly successful fantasy series Encantadia which aired on the network's primetime block last 2005.

This, according to our source, is due to the ratings leadership of another primetime reboot, the remake of Mars Ravelo's Darna.

Encantadia has been a cult classic among Pinoy TV fans with its superb storytelling, great sets, the detailed costumes and cute language being spoken on the show's universe.

But the network might not retain the original characters that we have loved since three of the four Sanggres are not available. We say unavailable because Karylle is already on ABS-CBN, Sunshine Dizon went to the US due to some unexplained causes and Diana Zubiri on leave. This leave Iza Calzado as the lone actress available for the reboot.

The series is one of the many fantasay series that the Kapuso network launched that cemented its lead on the nation's capital and its suburbs.

Laurenti Dyogi is Piolo Pascual's first boyfriend?

This is uberly shocking! Upon hearing this gossip, I was definitely left dumbstricken. This is just a gossip and I myself can't verify if its true.

A source told me that during the time that Ultimate Hearthrob Piolo Pascual is still a fledgling newbie actor, his first boyfriend is renowned director and PBB Business Unit Head Laurenti Dyogi.

Well, both are good-looking so back then they can really be an envied couple.

It is really unbelievable, but a really worth sharing one.

Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis to host new talent show

The news of ABS-CBN's cancellation of Ruffa and Ai is defintely not a shock since the morning talk show is performing poorly both in Mega Manila and the nationwide race.

A new talent program is slated to replace the fledgling talk show which will be hosted by comedy actor Vhong Navarro and primetime star Anne Curtis. The show is currentky being promoted on teasers entitled Showtime.

Aside from the removal of Ruffa and Ai on its morning line-up, ABS-CBN reportedly is on the run of reformatting its long-running game show Pilipinas Game KNB?. If the early report is true, there will also be a new host of the morning game show since Edu Manzano is planning to bid a term on the Senate.

'Ruffa and Ai' to bid goodbye?

The morning talk show of ABS-CBN Ruffa and Ai is rumored to be bidding its farewell soon as the network decided not to renew the contract of the show and its hosts.

According to our source, the daily morning talk show is axed because it was unable to fare the competition against GMA's SIS, hosted by Carmina Villaroel, Janice de Belen and Gelli de Belen.

Tentatively, Ruffa and Ai will have its last episode on October 22, and the new variety show Showtime hosted by Vhong Navarro and Anne Curtis will replace it on Octobe 25.

The movie adaptation of the action-fantasy graphic novel will be joint project of Viva Films, Unitel Pictures and GMA Films, under the helm of Mark Reyes.

New Precious Hearts, Family Feud to premiere on Monday

Monday is another head-to-head clash of two show premieres from ABS-CBN and GMA Network on the respective pre-primetime block.

A new installment of the romance novel adaptation Precious Hearts Romances will premiere on the kapamilya network starring newcomer Guji Lorenzana and the returning actress Kaye Abad. Entitled Somewhere in my Heart, this bestseller romantic comedy will be directed by the box-office director and the so-called 'legend' in the romcom genre Cathy Garcia-Molina.

The tandem of Guji and Kaye started on Bud Brothers where the two played childhood sweethearts Pepper and Rei. Undeniably, the two got some chemistry, that's why ABS-CBN did not think twice to give the new loveteam their own mini-series.

On the same timeslot, rival GMA Network will air a new season of Family Feud, still with Richard Gomez as host. The game show for the whole family is the replacement of the hilarious Hole in the Wall. This season, the show launches a nationwide audition for families who want to experience the thrill and the excitement playing in a game show made for and by the family.

The two shows will premiere on October 19, Monday 5:15 pm.

TV Review: Show Me Da Manny

We started reviewing sitcoms on different broadcast networks, starting off with ABS-CBN's George and Cecil. Now, it is time for us to take a look on the Kapuso network's lone situational comedy starring the network's biggest talents.

It is the first show with boxing champ Manny Pacquaio in the lead role, with GMA's Primetime Queen Marian Rivera as his leading lady.

Show Me Da Manny follows the old sitcom format, from the set to the one-story episodic style and the laugh tracks.

GMA Network, is known for its reputation of highly acclaimed and ratings succesful situational comedies in the past. The Kapuso network is also producing the Philippine TV's longest running and highest rated gag show, Bubble Gang.

But their new sitcom came to be a very big dissapointment.

A sitcom that promises a hilarious concept, with a large ensemble of supporting casts, it is barely watchable. It's not funny. It is plainly boring.

The pilot episode, and the succeeding episodes, aside from boring me to death, it also annoys me that Pacquiao barely delivers his lines correctly. He's definitely not a good actor, nor a comedian at that.

In a highly competitive night, GMA should have made a sitcom that is as good, if not, just near the quality of Bahay Mo Ba 'To?, a now defuncted sitcom which previously aired on the network.

The biggest problem with this show are its unwitty and unfunny dialogues.

Comedy in the show is primarily based on the cast slapping each other, Pacman punching one of his sidekicks and Marian Rivera shouting all her soul, all at no avail to make the show funny. It slapstick all over, that most of the time tends to be annoying instead of being funny.

GMA should replace this show ASAP. A sitcom should star legitimate comedians, not just celebrities which don't have the acting chops to punch a funny line.

TV Review: George and Cecil

It is sad but we must admit that the glory days of situational comedies in Philippine television is over. Gone are the days that sitcoms and comedy series rule primetime TV, with several of shows under the genrecracking the top 10 most watched shows.

Now, dramas (ranging from original teleseryes, fantasy series, and remake of foreign drama series) rule the airwaves, starring this generation's biggest and brightest stars. ABS-CBN and GMA seemed to have already given up on sitcoms to be top raters and big money makers.

In fact, the two media giants only have one comedy series each on its programming line-up, excluding gag and sketch shows (i.e. Bubble Gang, Banana Split and Lokomoko High).

ABS-CBN brought back situational comedy on its line-up with an American type sitcom which gained popularity in the recent decade.

George and Cecil, stars Young Superstar Judy Ann Santos and her husband Ryan Agoncillo as a struggling newly weds who deals different exciting and hilarious adventures which end up both learning the necessary lessons as a married couple.

It deviates from the typical sitcoms, with the absence of laugh tracks and one story arch each episode. George and Cecil has a continuing plot, which ends up viewers hanging up each episode. Most sitcoms ends an arch every episodes.

The comedy show also differ itself from the traditional brand of situational comedies we know since it opted not to shoot on studio sets, but on actual location like popular American comedies like 30 Rock, Community and Entourage.

The series also boast a stellar cast, from the two lead stars up to the superb supporting characters which viewers can definitely relate to. Much of the episodes during the first season are well written.

Judy Ann Santos' character and her bestfriend portrayed by Gladys Reyes are funny, not in a way that they make faces, they shout or make slapstick moves. Instead, both are funny in a witty way. Audience will laugh with their remarks, how they talk about the troubles of every married couples and the funny advices that the two give each other.

Ryan Agoncillo is blending well with Judy Ann Santos, as both already exhibited their great chemistry on blockbuster movies Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo and the sequel Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo.

This show deserves more popularity than it has right now since the quality of each episodes are well maintained. I think, this is what you can get if the writer and the director is a Jose Javier Reyes.

George and Cecil is one of this year's best shows, and definitely deserves an award, maybe a Star Award for Best Comedy Show!

Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Just barely eight months after he took the presidency, the US President Barack Obama won this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

The announcement was made Friday morning in Osla, Norway by the Nobel Committee. According to the committee, Obama was awarded "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. He has created a new international climate."

After hearing the news, the President gave a speech at the White House's Rose Garden to address the awards.

"This is not how I expected to wake up this morning," he told the gathered reporters. "I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision made by the Nobel committee. Let me be clear that I don't view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.

"To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize," he continued.

"But I know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women and all Americans want to build, a world that gives life to our founding documents."

Is Marian Rivera's 'Tarot' a flop?

She's GMA Network's unofficial queen (no offense to Regine Velasquez). Dubbed as the Primetime Queen because of her back-to-back no. 1 primetime program in Mega Manila, she is currently the star of Mega Manila's no. 1 primetime show, as the ass-kicking superheroine Darna.

She is also ranked by Q's Ang Pinaka as the no. 1 "Pinakamabentang Endorser', and appeared on a number of films from Regal and GMA Films just in one year. She's truly a phenomenal star, skyrocketed towards stardom through a remake of a very popular Mexican series.

But what really happened with her latest horror movie Tarot?

It seems that there is a news blackout about the gross returns of Marian's latest movie. The film's producer even did not bother to drumbeat the movie's success, if there is any.

The movie results portal Box Office Mojo also failed to give us any updates about Marian's Tarot.

Well, according to some reliable sources, Tarot has been a first day-last day movie in some cinemas, meaning it premiered today and closed the next day.

It seems that the movie has flopped but we can't validate it since the film's gross results has not been published or revealed by Regal.

If the movie indeed flopped, how can it fail when it stars a very popular actress with a top rating show in Mega Manila?

We can't blame that the movie wasn't promoted well since teasers of the film proliferated in GMA, and for some instances in ABS-CBN.

So let's just hope that the gross results of Tarot be released one of these days to answer if Marian really did well in the box office, or got fazed again the same as most of her previous films.

Angel Locsin humbled by international acting nomination

Primetime TV royalty Angel Locsin is definitely thankful for her nomination in the International Emmy's for her performance in Lobo.

The nomination is surely a way of good karma. Angel, who has been helping the victims of the typhoon Ondoy with or without the camera, opted to keep mum on the criticisms mounted to her by her detractors. Instead, she continued her relief operations.

Instead of jubilating her nomination, Angel expressed her sympathy to the typhoon victims.

“Salamat!!! Gustuhin ko mang magtatatalon sa tuwa, pero parang ‘di naaayon sa nangyayari sa Pilipinas ngayon.” That short message by Angel was her reply to the people who’ve congratulated her on Facebook.

The actress is slated to return to primetime next year.

In the meantime, she will have a month-long Your Song episode, an episode of MMK and a movie with Aga Muhlach.

Alfie Lorenzo attatcks Piolo Pascual

Top leading man Piolo Pascual is back on primetime, and his arch enemy Alfie Lorenzo is also back on hitting the actor with hurtful words on the latter's tabloid column.

The latest tirade by the manager of Superstar Judy Ann Santos is the failure of Piolo's latest primetime teleserye Lovers in Paris to top the ratings game, given its heavy promotion and expensive out of the country shooting.

Based on the national TV ratings, the Piolo-KC starrer ranked no. 4 on primetime behind TV Patrol World, May Bukas Pa and Katorse which ranked first to third respectively.

The columnist-manager slammed Piolo with Lovers in Paris modest figures since Katorse is rating higher to think that the latter is on pre-primetime and has lower cost in production.

Lorenzo also ridiculed the low ratings of Piolo's latest primetime offering in Mega Manila,as well as the episode marathon of Lovers in Paris last Saturday. He even questioned the star power of Piolo, enumerating strings of lackluster performances of the Ultimate Hearthrob.

Angel Locsin nominated in International Emmy

A nomination in the International Emmy Awards certainly cemented Angel Locsin's place amongs the best actresses of this generation.

After the win of her first teleserye on ABS-CBN as the Best Telenovela in the Banff International TV Awards, Angel Locsin got a nod from the 37th International Emmy Awards in the Best Performance by an Actress category for her role as Laika, the she-wolf heroine in Lobo.

Indeed, when it rains it pours for the young actress.

All in all, Philippines scooped three nominations this year, two of which are in the Best Telenovela category.

ABS-CBN's Kahit Isang Saglit (A Time for Us) which is a co-production with Malaysia's Double Vision SDN BHD was nominated together with GMA's daytime film drama remake Magdusa Ka.

In fact, two of the four shows competing for the Best Telenovela category are from the Philippines. The country has been building a growing reputation in this highly popular category, even edging telenovelas from Mexico and other Latin countries. Latin American countries usually dominates this category.

Completing the four finalists in the Telenovela category are Brazil's TV Globo with India - A Love Story and Second Chance of TF1 Production/Fontana, France.

The awarding ceremony will take place on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel with UK television star Graham Norton.

I think, these nominations is a sort of backfire to critics of Filipino dramas, who often compare it with those made in Korea.

It just shows that our original dramas appeal most to Western audience, with compelling stories and performances by the actors.

ABS-CBN acquires 'Got Talent' franchise

Talent shows have been a very succesful format worldwide. Britain's Got Talent received global exposure this year after one of its contestants became a Youtube sensation.

TV5's flagship program Talentadong Pinoy became a hit, often securing the no. 1 spot on Saturdays in Mega Manila, to think its network is fledgling in viewership against the titans, ABS-CBN and GMA. The show is an evidence of how viewers like to watch ordinary folks showcasing their talents on national TV.

GMA is also developing it's own talent show which will replace Bitoy's Funniest Videos according to one of my sources.

But instead of developing its own talent show which might face problems with copyrights, ABS-CBN decided to buy the rights of 'Got Talent' owned by Simon Cowell's SYCO Company.

Dubbed as the biggest reality talent show worldwide, Filipinos will now have its own version which will be called Pilipinas Got Talent. It is now the time for Pinoys to showcase to the whole world what we are one of this planet's most talented.

Watch out for Pilipinas Got Talent on ABS-CBN.
