The surprise Judy Ann Santos-Ryan Agoncillo wedding caused a stir in Philippine showbiz. Pitt-Jolie ex-bodyguard strikes fear of tell-all

News that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s former bodyguard Mickey Brett might pen a tell-all or sell a television show based on his work with the couple sent panic through much of the Hollywood A-list set.

“If this kind of thing can happen with Brad and Angie, it can happen to anyone,” said one publicist who has worked with a roster of A-list clients. Brett has worked with Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Richard Gere in the past, but the threat Brett seems to pose to celebrity confidentiality doesn’t end there.

“If Mickey isn’t stopped — even if it’s lies that he puts out there, it plants a seed,” said the publicist. “And it doesn’t necessarily have to stop with security, it takes a village to get these people out the door. Stylists, assistants, you name it, there’s a lot of trust at play.”

Jolie and Pitt’s attorney Marty Singer told the New York Daily News that among other things, Brett wasn’t a reliable source, was bound by a confidentiality agreement and his ghostwriter made up many of the stories contained in a proposal obtained by the paper. Brett’s attorney countered by telling the paper, “Our client disputes what has apparently been said by Mr. Singer, but is not in a position to comment further at this stage.”

Brett's ghost writer, Robin McGibbon, insists to the Daily News that he did not embellish the bodyguard's stories.

“Mickey was definitely going to consider a book or TV deal if the offer was good enough,” says McGibbon. But at this point, he said, “there’s not going to be any book."

Christina Applegate named 'Most Beautiful'

She has an "angel" of a boyfriend, Dutch bass player Martyn Lenoble, "who loves me from head to toe." She has a cozy Malibu beach house that she calls "the best thing I've ever done for myself." And, after a very public battle with breast cancer that has given her a gratifying "feeling of purpose," Christina Applegate has a new lease on life.

"I used to be really shy but I started to come into my own in my late 20s and early 30s," Applegate, 37, tells PEOPLE in the cover interview for the annual Most Beautiful issue – her first interview since her reconstructive breast surgery last November. "Now I'm not afraid to speak up in a room full of people and be a part of the conversation."

The Samantha Who? star says she's finding balance and embracing her body after undergoing a double mastectomy in July.

"You have to get through the physical transformations then buck up, go to work and try to be the normal, happy Christina for everyone around you," she says.

One source of strength has been Lenoble. "He's been a friend for about 13 years," Applegate says. "Our relationship gets stronger and stronger. I'm really lucky."

And, more importantly, he makes the actress feel "beautiful" about her new body.

"I'm very grateful to Martyn for coming along at a time that he did because he's been my rock through all of this," Applegate says. "He gave me something to really want to live for and something to smile about."

Celeb magazines loved Obama’s first 100 days

One hundred days into the Obama administration, it comes as no surprise that coverage of the president and his family has not been limited to the standard news outlets.

Even before the election, celebrity magazines realized the Obamas weren’t just a politics story, but a lifestyle one as well. The covers of People, Us Weekly, Life & Style and OK! all used their most valuable real estate to introduce the first family to their readers.

But here's a surprise: After the introductions were made, those magazines kept their coverage at nearly the same pace through the 100 day mark. In 2009, a member of the first family has appeared as the main image on a total of six covers (twice on People, one time each for Us, Life & Style, In Touch and OK!). In 2008, they were on nine covers.

Young Superstar Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo were allegedly married today, April 28, 2009 with Father Tito Caluag as officiating priest in an out-of-town church wedding held at 7 o'clock this morning.

Among the entourage are Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, Songbird Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid; Susy and Paolo Abrera.

The entourage are in the wedding location since last night. There were rumors speculated that the beach wedding will take place today.

Rihanna wants $1.4M worth of jewelry returned

Rihanna is seeking the return of $1.4 million in jewelry she was wearing the night she was allegedly beaten by Chris Brown.

Donald Etra, an attorney for the “Umbrella” singer, filed a motion Tuesday asking that Los Angeles police and prosecutors return a pair of earrings and three rings, which were seized as evidence.

The motion states that Brown’s attorney, and a Los Angeles Police Department detective overseeing the case, do not object to the return of the items. They have agreed that photographs can be used if the case goes to trial, the documents state.

The filing includes a general description of the items, saying they all are made of “yellow metal” and all but one includes “white stones.” The value of the items is at least $1.4 million, the motion states. It argues that photographs of the items will satisfy the needs of attorneys and asks the court “to order the return of the property to (Rihanna) without further delay.”

The jewelry was part of the ensemble that Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was wearing when Brown allegedly beat her while driving home from a pre-Grammy party. Brown is accused of hitting, biting and choking his girlfriend as the couple drove through the upscale Hancock Park neighborhood.

The filing indicates the jewelry was loaned to the singer by four companies, which want the items back. The items are wanted for events overseas, the filing states.

Susan Boyle gets eyebrow-raising makeover

Britain is buzzing over singing sensation Susan Boyle’s mini-makeover, with some worrying that her new look may cost her some support in the “Britain’s Got Talent” competition that catapulted her to international stardom.

Boyle, 47, became an instant YouTube and Internet celebrity after appearing on the British TV show with gray frizzy hair, bushy eyebrows and a jowly face above a remarkably unflattering dress. The contrast between Boyle’s un-adorned looks and her angelic singing voice endeared her to viewers the world over.

But on Friday, Boyle appeared on the cover of The Sun tabloid sporting freshly dyed and styled brown locks and newly shaped eyebrows.

While no one could accuse Boyle of turning into a WAG — as the highly stylized Wives and Girlfriends of England’s wealthy athletes are called — the difference was shocking.

Jones praised Boyle for getting a 35-pound ($51) hair cut at a local salon near her home in Scotland rather than trekking to London for a 200-pound ($295) cut at a celebrity salon.

But Max Clifford, Britain’s most prominent publicist, called the makeover a major risk because it could jeopardize the phenomenal connection between Boyle and her worldwide audience.

Erich Gonzales will star in 'Katorse' remake

Young Kapamilya actress Erich Gonales is the next star to wear Mother Lily Monteverde's magic kamison.

The Season 2 Grand Questor of ABS-CBN's reality-based artista search 'Star Circle Quest' will be launched in full stardom with the TV adaptation of 'Katorse', Dina Bonnevie's film which also propelled the actress to popularity way back the '80s.

The film was very daring during that time as Ms. Bonnevie don the skimpy kamison that get sexier as it gets wet, thus it was a trend during that era that most sexy films show 'wet' scenes.

But the TV adaptation might not be as daring as the film since it will be shown on Sunday afternoons as part of ABS-CBN's weekend daytime drama anthology 'Your Song Presents'. Erich will be paired with young actors Xian Lim and PBB Teen Edition Season 2 Big Winner Ejay Falcon.

There are also reports that aside from the TV serialization, Erich will also star with its film remake c/o Regal Films.

Marian Rivera is the new Darna

GMA Network officially announced that the network's biggest star will be the new Darna, as the super heroine returns on television. The announcement was made this afternoon at the 7th floor of the GMA Network Center.

But the SVP for Entertainment TV Ms. Wilma Galvante immediately cleared that this will be Marian's solo project as opposed to what was plugged two years ago that the return of Darna will reunite the sexy heroine with Captain Barbel.

Aside from Ms. Galvante, also present during the presscon were GMA Films President Ms. Annette Gozon-Abrogar, GMA Network executives Ms. Lilybeth Resonable and Ms. Arivin Arayata, and Mars Ravelo's children Ruby Austria and Zaldy Ravelo.

Angel Locsin, who is now ABS-CBN's hottest property previously portrayed the seductive and super sexy heroine on its return in Philippine television on 2005.

There is still no definite schedule for the airing of the new primetime show and its taping. The name of Marian's leading man was also not announced.

The actress is currently seen in "Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang" which is said to be the last series of Marian and Dingdong's loveteam. The show did not rate as high as her previous shows.

‘Grey's’ star Ellen Pompeo is pregnant

Ellen Pompeo and her husband, Chris Ivery, are starting a family together, her rep, Jennifer Allen, confirms to PEOPLE.

"It's great news," says Allen. "They're ecstatic."

The "Grey's Anatomy" star, 39, and Ivery, 41, a music producer, were married by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a low-key ceremony in November 2007. The couple met in a grocery store in 2003 and began dating six months later.

Pompeo, who's recently been spotted shopping for baby gear around Los Angeles, is not the only Seattle Grace doctor having a baby in real life: Costar Chyler Leigh and her husband, Nathan West, are expecting her third child, a girl, in May.

Adam Lambert: America's First Gay 'Idol'?

There's the eyeliner. There's the YouTube video in which he declares kissing girls is "not necessarily" his preference. There are the Web photos of him making out with guys.

None of it seems to matter.

Adam Lambert appears to be this year's chosen "American Idol" contestant, whatever his sexuality may be, signaling a shift from the moral scrutiny once piled on "Idol" contestants.

Lambert has never publicly acknowledged whether or not he's gay. But he did confirm that photos posted on the "American Idol"-mocking Web site votefortheworst.com depicting him dressed in drag and kissing another man were real, taken at the Burning Man arts festival, telling "Access Hollywood," "I have nothing to hide. I am who I am. And this is about singing … nothing else."

That comment was made before Lambert was voted into "Idol's" top 12 and Fox cut off press access to him and his family. Since then, speculation about the 27-year-old musical theater veteran's sexuality has been kept at a simmer.

Lambert's rendition of "Mad World" earned a standing ovation from perpetually persnickety judge Simon Cowell last week. Prior to that, his rendition of Smokey Robinson's "The Tracks of My Tears" drew high praise from the songwriter himself, who served as "Idol's" mentor of the week. According to online betting exchange Betfair.com, Lambert has a 68 percent chance of winning this season of "Idol," with no other contestant consistently wowing both voters and judges.

While Lambert's not flaunting his sexuality, whatever it may be, he's not taking the Clay Aiken path of avoidance. Aiken, the runner up of "Idol's" second season, dodged questions about his sexual orientation during his 2003 run on the show and for years afterward.

Aiken officially came out on the cover of People magazine in 2008 beneath the headline "Yes, I'm Gay," hardly shocking those who watched him all along and wondered about his sexuality.

Pinoy version of 'Maid in Manhattan' is next for Toni Gonzaga

Actress Toni Gonzaga revealed that her next big project this year is a Filipino television version of "Maid in Manhattan" which originally featured Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez.

Gonzaga, who will be doing one of the stories for ABS-CBN's upcoming afternoon series "Precious Hearts Romances: Ang Lalaking Nagmahal Sa Akin", said that she is really excited about her upcoming series.

She says will surely capture everyone's hearts with its light romantic themes.

Gonzaga said she is thrilled to be working for the first time with one of ABS-CBN's favorite leading men, hunk actor Derek Ramsay.

"This time makaka-partner ko na siya, walang expectation im just really looking forward sa mga eksena namin at sa trabaho naming gagawin kasi feeling ko magiging maganda 'yong kalalabasan niya at magdadala dito yung kwento mismo," she said.

Gonzaga recalled that she only got the chance to see Ramsay whenever they would see each other briefly inside the ABS-CBN compound.

"Lagi kaming nagkikita sa compound ng ABS-CBN pero ano lang talaga kami 'hi' and 'hello.' Pinakamatagal na 'yong one minute na magbatian kasi may kanya-kanya [kaming] trabaho, kanya-kanyang proyekto, so 'hi' and 'hello' lang," she said.

Gonzaga and Ramsay had previously done a hosting job together for the defunct entertainment show "Entertainment Konek."

Karylle starstruck by Marian Rivera

ABS-CBN's newest Kapamilya singer-actress Karylle admitted that she had once gotten starstruck with actress Marian Rivera who is now romantically linked to her ex-boyfriend Dingdong Dantes.

During the press conference of her first television project on ABS-CBN "Nasaan Ka Maruja" with actress Kristine Hermosa as Maruja, Karylle admitted that he was also mesmerized with Rivera's dancing style.

The singer even recounted that she saw Rivera's dance moves while the latter was performing for a rival network's entertainment show.

Karylle stressed that although she really like Rivera's dancing she never tried to mimic it.

The singer's admiration for Rivera rooted from a question thrown by one of the members of the entertainment press during the press conference of “Nasaan Ka Maruja?” after she revealed that she also got starstruck with Hermosa.

Know your pilot: GMA 2009 Summer Lineup

GMA has one of the more stable entertainment slates on TV with certified hits (at least for the prized Mega Manila area) in Totoy Bato, Zorro and Mari Mar.

What it doesn't have on the air are decent drama series as the network lacks good actors and great writing for its soap operas. But what makes GMA the leading network in the nation's capital are its good show platforms and creative concepts which are appealing to the masses.

GMA is the first network to announce upfront its 2009 summer schedule. Will any of these be the show that will help lift GMA out of its second place funk nationwide? Most are remakes and adaptations and there's nothing that screams hit in the list.

The buzz about the shows:

"Adik Sa 'Yo"

What it is: Romantic comedy to replace 'Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang'

Why we're interested: Created and developed by Denoy Navarro-Punio for GMA Network featuring the reunion of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal. The series will be directed by award-winning Joel Lamangan.

"Rosalinda"

What is it: Philippine adaptation of a famous Mexican telenovela of the same name that starred Thalia ten years prior .

Why we're interested: The teleserye will feature another fresh face. Carla Abellana, a new discoveree, will portray the title role which makes us think if she's the next Marian Rivera or another star wannabe.

"Ngayon at Kailanman"

What is it: Heavy drama which will be aired in the afternoon block

Why we're interested: After all the bruhaha, the drama series will pair for the first time Heart Evangelista and JC de Vera. This series became controversial as Heart first refused to accept the project. She then accepted the offer with JC de Vera as her new leading man. JC, on the other hand, is filing a legal suit against GMA's Entertainment Group head Ms. Wilma Galvante.

"Are You The Next Big Star"

What is it: Reality-based singing competition to be aired on Saturday nights.

Why we're interested: The show promises a fresh twist on reality TV competitions. Songbird Regine Velasquez returns as host with television's most non-lucrative prize, a recording contract on GMA Records.

More to come. Please continue visiting the PILOT section for more updates.

ABS-CBN posts P1.39B net income in 2008

ABS-CBN, in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) Tuesday, reported that it has posted a net income of P1.39 billion for 2008 or nine percent higher than the P1.26 billion netted in 2007.

The media conglomerate said this amount is generated from revenues of P22.3 billion.

ABS-CBN also reported that consolidated revenues from airtime and direct sales rose by P2.37 billion or 12 percent year-on-year to P22.3 billion in 2008, inclusive of gross revenue contribution from Skycable of P2.6 billion for three quarters beginning April 2008.

It said its overall core business revenue growth for 2008 is 15 percent, net of the non-recurring license fees of P548 million in 2007.

ABS-CBN’s core airtime businesses registered a slight contraction in revenues for the year to P13.4 billion or one percent, despite a 56-percent growth in cable TV airtime sales.

Skycable contributed P92 million of airtime revenues between April and December 2008, bringing consolidated airtime revenues to P13.5 billion.

ABS-CBN’s direct sales businesses have increasingly complemented its airtime revenues over the past five years, in 2008 reaching 39 percent of total. Direct sales reached P8.9 billion, with a P2.59 billion contribution from Skycable.

Direct sales from core businesses (before the consolidation of Skycable) rose by P510 million to P6.3 billion, a nine percent gain over 2007’s P5.8 billion as ABS-CBN.

Global’s subscription revenues grew 28 percent year-on-year in US dollar terms.

ABS-CBN’s continuing efforts to institutionalize financial discipline and spending restraint enable the network to realize savings of P237 million in total expenses from core businesses and bring it lower by one percent year-on-year to P17.45 billion.

Total production costs in 2008 of P6.3 billion is three percent lower than last year, with a net savings of P202 million.

Personnel expenses and talent fees decreased by P115 million or four percent for the year to P2.7 billion, from P2.82 billion the previous year, while P244 million in savings were derived from production process improvements, tighter control of production crew and equipment deployment and less equipment rentals.

Operating expenses (general and administrative expenses or GAEX) of core businesses registered a five percent decline to P5.1 billion, as net savings of P271 million were generated from savings in personnel expenses, as well as from lower advertising and promotions and utilities expenses arising from cost-containment measures.

Net income attributable to shareholders for 2008 is P1.38 billion, a P116.7 million or a nine percent improvement over last year’s net income.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for 2008 reached P6.1 billion, P1.1 billion or 21 percent higher over last year’s P5 billion, and yielding an EBITDA margin of 27.4 percent for 2008 versus 25.4 percent for 2007.

Know your pilot: ABS-CBN's 2009 Buzz

It is anyone's guess at this point is how ABS-CBN is going to deal with its increasing summer schedule --- including its growing daytime block.

ABS-CBN is the least sexy among major Philippine broadcasting networks. It doesn't make as many big creative reaches as GMA or TV5 and it's not in the throes of a downward spiral like RPN.

All ABS-CBN does is make well-produced shows that appeal to wide audiences and schedules them smartly, which has led to a run of success that's lasted for pretty much this entire decade. A lineup of traditional teleseryes (Filipino soap operas), well-established reality franchises and highly popular game shows doesn't necessarily make for international awards and recognition, but it sure is good business.

As such, ABS-CBN probably won't need too much in the way of new shows come next season -- it could conceivably bring back its entire formats in September and not suffer much for it.

Here's a sampling of what ABS-CBN is developing.

"Only You"

What it is: Philippine reamke of the not so hit Korean series which also aired in ABS-CBN.

Why we're interested: The pilot reportedly was shot in South Korea. The cast includes the hottest TV star Angel Locsin and likable actors Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo. The show is somewhat experimental since this is the first time the three stars will be working together in a teleserye.

"Nasaan Ka Maruja?"

What it is: TV adaptation of a Susan Roces film about a journalist with a third eye.

Why we're interested: The show is the TV comeback of former primetime queen Kristine Hermosa. ABS-CBN is good in horror-suspense genre and this show will surely follow the network's tradition of well-written scripts and strong actors that made it strong in the past.

"Precious Hearts Romance"

What it is: TV adaptation of romance pocketbook novels.

Why we're interested: Romance pocketbook novels present great scripts for television romantic series which ABS-CBN badly needs for its daytime block. Last season was filled with remakes, retreads and half-baked concepts, this show will provide a brether of fresh air for TV programming.

"Habang May Buhay"

What it is: Medical drama, a first on Philippine television.

Why we're interested: It stars Judy Ann Santos for chrissake. It means there's good acting in this show. But this is a first of its kind in the Philippines, viewers are excited if this show will raise the quality of programming a notch higher or just another dissapointment.

"Utoy"

What it is: Fantasy drama for kids. Another family drama on primetime.

Why we're interested: Another family drama like 'May Bukas Pa' will surely hit with younger audience. Kids usually comand very high ratings. Plus, this is Dolphy's first teleserye after almost two decades of starring on sitcoms in ABS-CBN.

"Lovers in Paris"

What it is: Remake of the phenomenal Korean series. Its a romantic-comedy!

Why we're interested: Is this show will replicate the success of Lobo of Piolo Pascual? Or it will end the rising star of KC Concepcion?

"George and Cecil"

What it is: A comedy of two opposite married couple.

Why we're interested: We'd like to see the premise in action, and a new sitcom in primetime television is badly needed after GMA's 'Ful Haus' totally went to suckers. Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo will try comedy this time and based from their movies, they're good at it.

More pilot infos to come. Please check PILOT section for updates.

'Kambal sa Uma' crawls its way to daytime supremacy (April 20, 2009)

The premier telecast of ABS-CBN's latest daytime teleserye 'Kambal sa Uma' lorded the daytime race with an impressive 25.8% beating erstwhile leader 'Wowowee' which settles on the second place earning 23.6%. The high pilot rating of 'Kambal sa Uma' propelled 'Pieta' to its highest registered rating for its entire run, earning 19.8%. The teleserye topbilled by Ryan Agoncillo is now on its last two weeks.

GMA's new primetime game show 'Hole in the Wall' edged Kris Aquino's 'Pinoy Bingo Night' with its impressive 22.2%. On the frontline of the competition is still 'May Bukas Pa' dominating primetime, followed by ABS-CBN's teleseryes 'I Love Betty La Fea' and 'Tayong Dalawa'.

'Fated to Love You' beaten 'SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon', now making it clear that ABS-CBN should premier 'Boys Over Flowers' to propel its primetime block to greater supremacy. Personally, 'SNN' should be pitted against GMA's Bilib Ka Ba Nights block to sustain competition, not with 'All About Eve' and 'Fated To Love You'.

"Ang Tanging Ama" is not approved title for Erap's movie

If former president Joseph Estrada is doing a movie with Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas under the direction of Wenn Deramas to be screened on the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival, it means one thing --- the opposition leader won't be eligible to run for presidency this 2010.

Erap met with Star Cinema boss Malou Santos to discuss the upcoming film last April 14. Erap outlined his conditions for the comedy film with Ms. Ai-Ai. He wants it to be titled "Ang Tanging Ama". The former president also wants his role to be close to the barangay, a sort of "masa", and his broken English be also portrayed.

But according to insiders, the title as suggested is not approved because this is already reserved for Willie Revillame.

Even if Erap will tease in a forthcoming athritis medicine TVC that he’s running, the new automated election rules will not allow him. Deadline for filing of candidacy will be in November, 2009. Ban of movies by running candidates take effect immediately.
